Bush Cabinet

Comments from John P. in Historical Methods re Bush Names Treasury's No. 2 to Head Energy:
The President has filled another cabinet post. I would like to be optomistic about his choice to fill the opening but I'm not. The reason for my pessimism is that Bush doesn't seem to appoint anybody he can't manipulate. Bush's energy agenda won't change with a new energy chief.

The administration talks about having an energy policy that controls costs and gives us independence from foriegn oil. Bush announced that his "top priority" will be to "develop and deploy the latest technology to provide a new generation of cleaner and more efficient energy sources" Unfortunately, these comments pay lip service to the goals we should be striving to achieve. In the end, drilling in Alaska will probably be Bush's highest priority.

I too am pessimistic about President Bush's cabinet choices, especially regarding the environment...Bush is all about oil, and how he can make a profit off of it for himself and his closest friends...How can we be independent from foreign oil when most of our oil supply comes from foreign countries?

While I'd also like to be optimistic, I can't see how what President Bush says about what he'd like to see happen (as to obtaining more independence from foreign oil supplies) is really going to come about, because, as we all know, oil investments is how the president amassed a lot of the money he currently has...how would being more independent from that money source benefit him in any way?

I agree with you that with Bush choosing Gonzalez as the Attorney General he is setting up a trap in order to encourage more Latino voters to jump on the Republican bandwagon because they are “Latino friendly”. Latinos may see the Republicans in a new shining light because of the new high position one of their own was appointed to by President G.W. Bush and perhaps other young Latinos could rise up in politics and help to lead. Florida, the state I’m from is split down the middle with its party platform and this could be the push the Republicans needed to gain more of a foothold in the sunshine state the Democrats could ever hope for in gaining the edge. Kudos to President Bush for perhaps selecting a good choice in being the Attorney General, but a good choice that is indeed Latino and will perhaps bring more states to the Republican side. Chris V.
