Jane Fonda

Liz caught this article about Jane Fonda:
Fonda Says Vietnamese Visit Was a Betrayal
Thursday, March 31, 2005
(03-31) 10:27 PST NEW YORK, (AP) --

Jane Fonda says her 1972 visit to a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun site, an incident that brought her the nickname "Hanoi Jane," was a "betrayal" of American forces and of the "country that gave me privilege."

"The image of Jane Fonda, `Barbarella,' Henry Fonda's daughter ... sitting on an enemy aircraft gun was a betrayal ... the largest lapse of judgment that I can even imagine," Fonda told Leslie Stahl in a "60 Minutes" interview that will air Sunday night.

Fonda, whose memoir "Jane Fonda: My Life So Far" comes out next week, said she did not regret meeting with American POWs in North Vietnam or making broadcasts on Radio Hanoi. "Our government was lying to us and men were dying because of it, and I felt I had to do anything that I could to expose the lies and help end the war," she said.

Also on "60 Minutes," Fonda acknowledged that she had participated in sexual threesomes, at the encouragement of her first husband, French film director Roger Vadim. She said she consented because, "I felt that if I said no, that he would leave me and I couldn't imagine myself without him."

I read both of these stories (this and the one below)the other day and thought about them for a while although my thoughts are still inconclusive. It's interesting that they are posted together. One is a fine example of what happens when women don't have enough influence on social issues and the other happens when women have too much influence.
Both of them are disgraceful stories and quite frankly I don't know what to think, not about the individuals, but about the social contexts of their lives. It'd be a shame if a "Mukhtar" ever turned into a "Jane" (or the other way around).

Interesting article but i thought it was about Fonda and the whole Vietname thing. All of a sudden out of left field comes the bit about having threesomes. Did the writer think that the original content was not interesting enough or somthing? I could just picture the guy (or girl's) boss saying "Hmmm this story still needs somthing...better throw in a three-way"

Fonda is full of bologna in every sense of the word. My bet is that she enjoyed every inch of her threeway. Just leave it to those kinky Europeans.

Seriously though, I do agree with the previous commenter that Sixty Minutes has been selling out for at least for the last year or so. I notice more stories on celebrities and less on legitimate information. It's sad because the show's cast are part of a dieing breed-those who bring us the world's inadequacies in a smart mannor. Andy Rooney is pretty damn cool too.

As an avid viewer of the show 60 minutes i to have noticed that since Barbara Walters has left the show the articles presented are more and more on celebrities and celebrity feuds or on some other obscure topic. The show had claim on legitmate stories that actually effected the viewers or simply interested the views by showing the viewers a world they may never have seen without actually visiting some foreign place.

I am the son of a Vietnam Veteran, and a veteran myself, and I feel that Jane Fonda did not, and does not truly understand the consequences of her actions in North Vietnam, especially on the soldiers. Traditionally, celebrities go to theaters of operations to increase the moral of the regular guy or gal on the ground, what Jane Fonda engaged in
had the complete opposite effect. The effects are felt to this day. Go into the bathroom of any VFW hall nationwide, and in the urinals there will be a picture of Jane Fonda's face with a bullseye around it. (get the joke?). There were much better and more effective ways during the Vietnam Era to display your discontent with the war. What is she doing now? Does she feel that the anti-war movement surrounding the War in Iraq is not as sexy? Maybe if she felt that it would help promote her career, she would attempt to uncover the attrocities of the United States in the Middle East.
